Hiking and Biking

Trails and rides from beginner to expert, starting from the resort

By Bill Petrin

Olympic Valley is one of the best hiking destinations in the Sierra Nevada, with trails ranging from easy valley floor walks to demanding alpine routes above 9,000 feet. Several trailheads are within walking distance of Everline Resort, and the Shirley Lake Trail begins at the Resort Base Area itself. E-bike and bicycle rentals are available at the resort and in the Village.

TRAILS

Hikes from the Resort Area

Shirley Lake Trail

Moderate

3 mi round trip · 800 ft gain

Begins at the Palisades Tahoe Resort Base Area, a short walk from Everline. Climbs through forest and granite terrain to a scenic mountain lake.

Five Lakes Trail

Moderate

4.6 mi round trip · 1,000 ft gain

Trailhead in Alpine Meadows, 10 min by car. Leads to a cluster of alpine lakes above the treeline. Exceptional views of the Sierra crest. Dogs permitted on leash.

High Camp via Aerial Tram

Easy (lift-assisted)

Tram to 8,200 ft · hiking above

Ride the Palisades Tahoe aerial tram to High Camp in summer. A network of hiking trails accesses the upper mountain terrain. No climbing required.

Truckee River Bike Path

Easy

9 mi paved · minimal elevation

Paved multi-use path along the Truckee River from Tahoe City. 20-minute drive from the resort. Family-friendly and ideal for e-bikes.

CYCLING

E-Bikes and the Truckee River Path

E-bike and bicycle rentals are available at the resort activity desk and from shops in the Village at Palisades Tahoe. The pedal-assist on e-bikes handles the valley grades easily and opens up longer rides to guests who wouldn't otherwise cycle.

The Truckee River Recreational Trail is the best paved cycling route in the area - a 9-mile path from Tahoe City along the river through forest and meadows. A 20-minute drive from the resort, but worth it for a relaxed half-day on the bike.

Mountain bike trails are also accessible from the resort area. The Palisades Tahoe lift-access bike park operates in summer for more technical descents.
