RNO is the closest major airport - 45 minutes to Everline Resort

By Bill Petrin

Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) is the closest major airport to Everline Resort and Olympic Valley, approximately 45 minutes east via I-80 west and SR-267 south. It is the recommended arrival airport for most visitors and is significantly less congested than Sacramento or the Bay Area airports.

RECOMMENDED AIRPORT

Why Fly Into Reno

Reno-Tahoe is a midsized airport with significantly less congestion than Sacramento or the Bay Area airports. Direct flights operate from most major hubs including Los Angeles, Seattle, Denver, Dallas, Phoenix, and Chicago. The drive from RNO to Everline is 45 minutes on clear-weather days.

All major rental car companies operate at RNO from a consolidated ground transportation center. For winter visits, book a vehicle with AWD or 4WD - California chain control laws apply on SR-267 over Brockway Summit and on SR-89. Reserve your vehicle well in advance for peak ski weekends as inventory is limited and rates spike.

Shuttles and Ride-Share

North Lake Tahoe Express

A scheduled shuttle service operating between Reno-Tahoe Airport and the North Lake Tahoe area, including Olympic Valley. Multiple runs daily with hotel drop-off. Advance reservations strongly recommended - the shuttle does not always accommodate walk-up riders during peak periods. Check northlaketahoeexpress.com for current schedules and pricing.

Uber and Lyft

Both operate at RNO, but availability for the 45-minute trip to Olympic Valley can be inconsistent - drivers may be reluctant to make a long one-way trip. Surge pricing on peak travel days can be significant. Best used as a backup rather than a primary plan. Have the shuttle service as a fallback if ride-share isn't available at your arrival time.

WINTER TRAVEL

Winter Driving Notes

I-80 at Donner Summit

I-80 crosses Donner Summit at 7,240 feet and closes during major storms - sometimes for several hours. Check Caltrans Quickmap before departing Reno in winter. If the pass is closed, there is no practical alternate route.

SR-267 Brockway Summit

SR-267 over Brockway Summit (7,200 ft) is subject to chain control. Carry chains in your trunk even in an AWD vehicle - some chain control events require chains on all vehicles.

Rent AWD at RNO

Request AWD or 4WD when booking your rental. California chain control requires non-AWD vehicles to carry tire chains on these routes. Having AWD gives you more flexibility when conditions change.

Real-time conditions: Check quickmap.dot.ca.gov before departing in winter. Filter for I-80 and SR-267 to see current chain control status and any closures.
